Lion of the Tribe of Judah
Revelations 5:5 "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals."
God is referred to as a lion in this case giving a hint to His character: He is our protector, redeemer, and He is our mighty God.
Earlier in Genesis 49:9 a prophecy and blessing was given to Judah, son of Israel (Jacob), the ancestor of Jesus, saying "You are a lions cub, Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion He crouches and lies down, like a lioness--who dares to rouse him?" This is a description of the character of God as Judah later becomes Gods people.
