Runes is one of attributes of Shadowhunters which also known as the Marks. Shadowhunters' children have permanent marks that show their Shadowhunters inheritance. The mark can be on the right or left hand depends on whether they are right-handed or left handed. The runes are also called the Angel's marks since they are gifted by the Angel Raziel. Runes have great power and can be used to do great in combat. Runes are meant to assist Shadowhunters by giving extra power. There are many kinds of runes and recorded in a book called the Gray Book. There are runes for healing, strength, invisibility, increasing speed, and so on. Shadowhunters children bear their first mark when they are twelve. Runes can only be marked to Shadowhunters. Mundanes and demons cannot bear the runes. They can die if they try to use runes on them. Some runes are permanent, some are fading after being used and leaving a silver scarf in the skin. Runes are drawn using a stele.
