キャピタルゲイン
Profit generated when a security is sold. Mutual funds buy and sell portfolio securities continuously, generating long- and short-term capital gains and losses. If a fund's capital gains are greater than its capital losses, it will have net capital gains, which are distributed to fund shareholders, creating taxable income for them when held in a regular account. Capital gains are generally taxed at a lower rate than "ordinary income," which includes interest payments and income received from wages.
