MnO2 A black, crystalline, water-insoluble compound, decomposing to manganese sesquioxide, Mn2O3, and oxygen when heated to 535_C; used as a depolarizer in certain dry-cell batteries, as a catalyst, and in dyeing of textiles. Also known as battery manganese; manganese binoxide; manganese black; manganese peroxide.
