It started as a horseshoe in shape, running through 16 stations from Fuxingmen, to Jianguomen, and 16 km long. In 1987 the two existing lines became one line, making a loop. in 1992 extension to line 1 was made, making them separate lines ones more.

Now, great uncle Line 2, runs through 18 stations and 7 transfers.
