four-dimensional computed tomography

A series of CT scans acquired at different phases (times) in the respiratory cycle. When displayed sequentially, these multiple CT scans generate a moving image of how the target and surrounding organs move and deform during the breathing cycle. 4D CT images are used in treatment of lung, esophageal, and liver cancer. See also 4D PET.
