discounted payback period
The basis for comparison that represents the value of a cash-flow stream in terms of the time it will take (including interest) to recover the proposal’s initial investment. It indicates exposure to risk. If the proposal is cancelled before it reaches its payback period, the organization will, by definition, have lost money.
