communities
Communities of interest and communities of practice (CoP) exhibit more structure and more purpose than open social-networking sites. As with their precedents (bulletin boards or list servers), the people who participate in communities are linked by their interest in a topic. When CoP form within a company, it has identified members and expects to produce a result.
