beam
Used in DICOM to mean a continuous plan of treatment that includes beam parameters, device parameters, imaging instructions, a tolerance table, motion permissions, and two or more control points, as well as the treatment device to be used (such as the Clinac 2100 EX #3212); used generally in DICOM to mean both imaging and treatment beams. The terms "beam" and "field" often are used interchangeably; however, a beam is distinct in having a field and some images planned for that field.
