basic character
Frequently used double-byte character that is stored in the hardware of a DBCS-capable work station. The number of double-byte characters that are stored in the work station varies with the language supported and the storage size of the work station. A DBCS-capable work station can display or print basic characters without using the extended character processing function of the operating system.
