auroral zone
An approximately circular region around the two geomagnetic poles within which there is a maximum of auroral activity. It lies about ten to fifteen degrees of geomagnetic latitudes from the geomagnetic poles. The auroral zone broadens and extends equatorward during intense auroral displays. See aurora.
