absolute return
1) The return generated by an asset over a period of time. Absolute return differs from relative return because it does not compare performance with other measures (such as a benchmark).
2) Investment strategy which does not seek to beat a benchmark index. Often the goal ist specified as a return that exceeds a money market rate by a certain amount.
