Idared
Introduced in 1942, this Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station product is a cross between the Jonathan and Wagener apples. It's sometimes confused with the Texas Playboys song Ida Red. The Idared has a white flesh with a firm body. It has a tangy flavor like the Jonathan, but is much larger. It has a bright red skin, and firm texture. This apple is good for snacking and holds its shape ideally for baking. Idared is harvested at the end of September to the middle of October. It remains hardy and durable till the end of January, and can even last until June with proper storage.
