(1) An element of configuration management, consisting of selecting the configuration items for a system and recording their functional and physical characteristics in technical documentation. Contrast with: configuration control; configuration status accounting.~(2) The current approved technical documentation for a configuration item as set forth in specifications, drawings, associated lists, and documents referenced therein.
