The Dreyfus Affair
Alfred Dreyfus was a Jewish officer in the French Army in the late 19th century when he was accused of selling military secrets to Germany. Authorities sentenced him to life imprisonment. During the 12-year controversy, many violent anti-Semitic riots broke out. A few years later, a civilian court of appeals found Dreyfus innocent.
