Sometimes referred to as “Big Blue” IBM is a multinational corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York. It manufactures computer hardware and software and provides information technology and services.
(1) A network authentication protocol that is designed to provide strong authentication for client/server applications by using secret-key cryptography. See also Kerberos ticket.
(2) A network authentication protocol that is based on symmetric key cryptography. Kerberos assigns a unique key, called a ticket, to each user who logs on to the network. The ticket is embedded in messages that are sent over the network. The receiver of a message uses the ticket to authenticate the sender.
Industry:Software
(1) A collection of disks that are grouped together for serving media streams. The multimedia file system uses stripe groups to optimize delivery of multimedia assets.
(2) The set of disks comprising the storage assigned to a file system.
Industry:Software
(1) A network divided into smaller independent subgroups, which still are interconnected.
(2) To divide a network into smaller interconnected, but independent subgroups.
Industry:Software
(1) A collection of equivalent paths. Storage devices may have one - n path groups.
(2) In ESA/390 architecture, a set of channel paths that are defined to a control unit as being associated with a single logical partition (LPAR). The channel paths are in a group state and are online with the host. See also logical partition.
Industry:Software
(1) A network infrastructure component to which multiple nodes attach. Unlike a hub, a switch typically has internal bandwidth that is a multiple of link bandwidth and the ability to rapidly switch a node connection from one to another. A typical switch can accommodate several simultaneous full-link bandwidth transmissions between different pairs of nodes.
(2) A device that provides connections between telephone lines and trunks.
(3) A half-duplex or full-duplex device that detects which devices are attached at each port and passes only frames addressed to those devices on that port. A switch has a small collision domain.
Industry:Software
(1) A collection of files and certain attributes associated with those files.
(2) In the hierarchical file system, the underlying system support that manages I/O operations to files and controls the format of information on the storage media. A file system allows applications to create and manage files on storage devices and to perform I/O operations to those files.
(3) The collection of files and file management structures on a physical or logical mass storage device, such as a diskette or minidisk.
Industry:Software
(1) A node in a message flow that represents a processing step. A message processing node can be either a primitive or a subflow node.
(2) See message flow node.
Industry:Software
(1) A collection of formatted output data produced by chaining several smaller pieces of data. A user builds a logical message by issuing a series of BMS SEND commands.
(2) An input or output message that is in a queue associated with a logical rather than a physical terminal. The message queue can be moved, independent of an application, from device to device.
Industry:Software
(1) A Northern Telecom switch.
(2) The custom ISDN protocol implemented on the DMS100 switch, providing 23 B-channels and a D-channel over a T1 trunk.
Industry:Software
(1) A collection of hosts and routers, and the interconnecting networks, that are managed by a single administrative authority.
(2) A logical collection of resources that is used to separate responsibilities and manage permissions.
