Sometimes referred to as “Big Blue” IBM is a multinational corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York. It manufactures computer hardware and software and provides information technology and services.
(1) The logic that contains the processor function to start the system processor and handle error conditions.
(2) A generic term for Remote Supervisor Adapters, Advanced System Management processors, Advanced System Management PCI adapters, and integrated system management processors (ISMPs). These hardware-based management processors used in IBM Netfinity and xSeries servers work with IBM Director to provide hardware status and alert notification.
(3) The interface to the Hardware Management Console (HMC) that provides hardware control and logical partition (LPAR) support for System p5 servers.
Industry:Software
(1) The logical modeling of one or more resources on which cyclical data collection, data analysis, and monitoring are based. Related events and actions are triggered, if required. For any resource model, users can specify individual thresholds and event aggregation rules. See also event.
(2) A model that defines the resources used in business operations, including their roles, availability, and cost characteristics.
Industry:Software
(1) The logical ordering of primary storage pools, based on the speed and capacity of the devices that the storage pools use, as defined by the appropriate administrator.
(2) An arrangement of storage devices with different speeds and capacities. The levels of the storage hierarchy include: main storage, such as memory and direct access storage device (DASD) cache; primary storage (DASD containing user-accessible data); migration level 1 (DASD containing data in a space-saving format); and migration level 2 (tape cartridges containing data in a space-saving format). See also hierarchical storage management, migration level 1, migration level 2, object storage hierarchy, primary storage.
Industry:Software
(1) The main catalog containing all products, SKUs, descriptions, and standard pricing for each product. See also online catalog, sales catalog.
(2) A key-sequenced data set (KSDS) or file with an index containing extensive data set and volume information that the Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM) requires to locate data sets or files, allocate and deallocate storage space, verify the authorization of a program or operator to gain access to a data set or file, and accumulate usage statistics for data sets or files.
Industry:Software
(1) The manner in which the hardware and software of a system, subsystem, or network are organized and interconnected.
(2) See topology.
(3) The machines, devices, and programs that make up a system, subsystem, or network.
(4) The process of describing to a system the devices, optional features, and program products that have been installed so that these features can be used. See also customization.
(5) In a broker domain, the brokers, execution groups, deployed message sets, and deployed message flows, and the defined topics and access control lists.
(6) The requirements, design, and implementation that define a particular version of a system or system component. See also configuration management.
(7) A type of decision, for both solicited and unsolicited interactions, that controls the properties of a managed resource.
(8) The operating system parameters of a system profile.
Industry:Software
(1) The medium on which the operating system software, a licensed program, or an application program is distributed to the user. The distribution medium can be any of several different media supported by the hardware, such as streaming cartridge tape, 9-track tape, or 3.5-inch diskette.
(2) The media that a central site creates and distributes to target systems. See also installation media.
Industry:Software
(1) The message protocol used between user agents to convey the syntax and structure of an X.400 message and to specify what a recipient user agent does with the message.
(2) In MERVA Link, a peer-to-peer protocol used by cooperating application support processes (ASPs).
Industry:Software
(1) The message transfer protocol used to relay X.400 messages between message transfer agents (MTAs).
(2) In MERVA Link, a peer-to-peer protocol used by cooperating message transfer processes (MTPs).
Industry:Software
(1) The method of defining most resources to CICS. See also resource definition macro.
(2) In CICS , a facility that allows the user to define certain CICS resources interactively while CICS is running. Specifically, RDO allows the user to define terminals, programs, and transactions interactively.
Industry:Software
(1) The mode of operation of an Automated Tape Library Dataserver (ATLDS) that allows the operator to locate and move the cartridges to and from drives and cells under the direction of the library manager. In manual mode, the robot is not operating. See also managed manual mode.
(2) The mode of operation in which DFSMSrmm runs without recording volume usage or validating volumes. The DFSMSrmm Time Sharing Option (TSO) commands, Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF) dialog, and inventory management functions are all available in manual mode. See also record-only mode, warning mode.
(3) An operating mode in which an administrator must manually initiate deployment requests on applications or application tiers.
