swedge

A swedge is a part of some knifepoint constructions where the spine of the knife is tapered into the point and, in some circumstances, sharpened. The start of the swedge's taper is usually only at the tip, usually just before the profile on the main edge curves up to the tip. A swedge can be inline with the spine of the knife, or it can have a concave curvature depending on the design.

Bowie knives traditionally have a swedge at their tip, some sharpened and some not. The SOG S1 Bowie has an extended swedge, acting as a fuller as well, which extends from the tip almost two thirds of the full blade's length.
