secondary focal point

The secondary focal point is the visual point which grabs less attention than the primary focal point. While the primary focal point is the subject of the photograph, the secondary focal point can be any other element which falls in a rank based on the amount of importance the viewer gives to it. Since the secondary focal point is slightly smaller in the frame and softer in focus than the primary focal point, the viewers will first look at the primary focal point and then to the secondary one. When including secondary focal points, one should keep in mind his or her intended message. If an element seems to compete with the subject in a way that takes away from the message a person is trying to convey, he or she should remove it from the photograph.
