cultural industry

A commercial undertaking that produces and distributes goods and services related to the arts and heritage of a people. Examples of cultural industries include broadcasting, film, multimedia, audio-visual, printing, publishing, sound recording, sports, video games, advertising, heritage services, cultural tourism, crafts, as well as designs. Architecture, visual arts and performing arts can be included, however they are usually considered more specifically to be creative industries. Cultural industry is a type of creative industry. Cultural industries are a key component when studying cultural economics, as they form the basis of how wealth is distributed with regards to the arts, the media and to heritage, and these industries propel the financial side of culture.
