cultural heritage

Property, especially a good or service, with a cultural or historical dimension that has been passed on from a previous generation and is intended to be preserved for future generations. It can have varying degrees of aesthetic and commercial value depending on its social significance and its importance—be it historical or artistic—to a particular community or culture. Cultural heritage can be tangible or intangible. Built or immovable heritage includes archaeological sites, gardens, historic buildings, historic urban centres, monuments and museums. Moveable heritage includes artworks, artefacts and archives. Intangible heritage refers to inherited traditions, knowledge and skill, and includes works of music, literature, inherited practices, rituals and language.
