It is always good to know where you are, where you're going, and where you have been. A compass has 2 arrows, usually the red points north, and the white points south (north can be black too). The degrees on a compass are used in pairing with a map to determine your directional heading.

In the case of a zombie apocalypse, if you are separated from your group, a compass may be able to help once safety is achieved.
