The Unified Intelligence Taskforce, formerly United Nations Intelligence Taskforce, was founded by Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, UNIT is a military organisation in the United Kingdom that investigates and combats alien and other supernatural forces deemed threats to the Earth. Although UNIT originally operated in the United Kingdom, other branches were opened abroad at a later date. Whilst on exile on Earth, the Third Doctor agrees to work for UNIT as a scientific adviser, and becomes close friends of the Brigadier during that time. After the end of his exile, he continues to assist them sporadically. In the 2010s, Kate Stewart, the Brigadier’s daughter, becomes head of scientific research and the leader of UNIT.
