Professor River Song, born Melody Pond, is the daughter of companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams, and the Doctor's wife. Considered a “child of the TARDIS”, she has human and Time Lord DNA. Melody is kidnapped as a baby and conditioned to be a weapon to be used against the Doctor. Despite succeeding in killing the Doctor, she has her conditioning broken and gives her remaining regenerations to the Doctor to save him once she learns that she becomes River Song. Free from any restraints, River starts travelling the universe on her own, popping up randomly throughout the Doctor’s timeline and keeping a diary to keep track of their meetings. Forced to take the Doctor’s life for a second time, River is unsuccessful, and marries his Eleventh incarnation instead. She goes to prison for the Doctor's supposed murder as an attempt to protect her husband by keeping up the pretence of his death. Eventually, she is pardoned and becomes a Professor of Archaeology. Shortly after the Twelfth Doctor takes her to spend a twenty-four year night at the Singing Towers of Dallirium, River goes on a mission and dies saving the Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble and Strackman Lux, along with the rest of the Library. The Tenth Doctor then saves her consciousness digitally to the Library's computer system CAL.
