Leela is a companion of the Fourth Doctor. Leela is a warrior from the Savateem, a tribe of regressed humans originated from a group of the Mordee Expedition, which intended to colonise an Earth-like planet. Leela meets the Doctor when he visits her planet; starting to travel with him after becoming friends. Due to her origins, Leela is educated by the Doctor in many subjects in an attempt to broaden her knowledge of the world. Leela meets and falls in love with Time Lord Andred, a member of the Chancellery Guard, and leaves the Doctor after marrying Andred, staying in Gallifrey. After her marriage to Andred, Leela takes the name Leelandredloomsagwinaechegesima.
