Captain Jack Harkness is a companion of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. Jack is born in the year 5094 and is raised in the Boeshane Peninsula (located in one of Earth’s colony planets), later becoming a Time Agent, being hailed as the ‘Face of Boe’. Jack starts travelling with the Doctor after meeting him and Rose Tyler during The Blitz in London. Jack is killed by a Dalek, but Rose Tyler brings him back to life in her Bad Wolf state, rendering him immortal. Seeing Jack as a fixed point due to his immortality, the Doctor abandons him in the year 200,100, fearing that he could interfere with the TARDIS’s proper operation. Jack decides to find the Doctor again and uses his vortex manipulator to travel to the 21st century, but his device breaks down and Jack gets stuck in the year 1869. Determined to wait for the Doctor, he waits out the 21st century whilst working for Torchwood, eventually becoming the Institute's head in 2000.
