Bodie, California

Bodie is a California State Park as well as California's Official Ghost Town, used to be a mining, is located between the towns of Bridgeport and Lee Vining off US 395. While 95% of the town's buildings have succumbed to fires and neglect the remaining structures are preserved in a state of arrested decay. It started its mining camp after discovering gold in 1895, and its first signs of decline occurred in 1912, and by 1917 due its its vastly reduced mining profits, the railway tracks were scraped. In 1942 the last mine was closed, due to War Production Board order, shutting down all nonessential gold mines. Mining never resumed. It has been abandoned since 1942.
