Barbara Wright, later Barbara Chesterton, is a companion of the First Doctor. She's the history teacher of Susan Foreman at the Coal Hill School in London in 1963. Curious about Susan, Barbara and fellow teacher Ian Chesterton follow the girl home to find out more about her, leading to them finding out about Susan and the Doctor's true nature. Once Barbara and Ian discover the truth, the Doctor kidnaps them in order to stop them from telling other people what they knew; making them the Doctor's first travelling companions. After leaving the Doctor, Barbara and Ian return to the year 1965, claiming to have been on a missionary work in Africa to account for the two-year gap between their disappearance and return. Barbara later marries Ian.
