Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, also known as Brigadier or just Brig, is a founding member of UNIT and close friend of the Doctor. After meeting the Second Doctor during the Great Intelligence’s invasion of Earth, the Brigadier founds the Home-Army Fifth Operational Corps before heading to UNIT and becoming the commander of the UNIT’s UK operations. After years at UNIT, the Brig quits and becomes a teacher at Brendon Public School, though he eventually leaves the school to return to UNIT. It’s suggested that he died in 2011, with his daughter Kate Stewart by his side. When the Master’s plan to disseminate cyber-polen into Earth’s atmosphere converting the dead into a Cyberman army is put into action, the Brigadier is converted into a Cyberman. In a final confront, the Brigadier shoots the Master, sparing the Doctor of doing so. The Brigadier then flies away after his lifelong wish of being saluted by the Doctor is fulfilled.
